Default transmission weird problems

okay so I'm having a similar problem to the other guys on here right now. I changed my transmission fluid and did the filter, dropped and cleaned the pan. Everything looked clean. actually probably the cleanest transmission pan I've changed. had a normal amount of slime on the magnet but otherwise spotless. so I refilled till it ran out the hole, fired it up put a total of 5 quarts in. drove it around a little and then cam home and put the last quart of fluid in(lucas stop slip). when i was out driving the other day I thought I noticed it slip a little. but it was so faint I thought I might be imagining things. so after reading a lot here on the forum I thought maybe I didn't drive it enough and it was too cold when i put the fluid in. so the wife and I were waiting for her disco to cool so she could do her plug wires, and we drove up to the car wash and rinsed off mine. Its about a four mile round trip. so I figured it was all good and warm, left it running and pulled the plug and it started flowing out, not a ton, but way more than when I filled it originally. also it seemed slightly foamy. I wanna be clear it wasn't extremely foamy or anything but I could tell it was getting slightly aerated. did I over fill it? It was a flat driveway, running both times?

The problem is that you need to fill the trans while its running and in neutral, not while its just sitting there. If you drain the trans change the filter put the pan back on and then fill it you will never get the right amount in, there is no need to drive it around either.
1** You simply drain the trans
2** drop the pan then remove old gasket
3** take out old filter & put in new filter & drain plug
4** put new gasket on and install pan
5** start the truck put in neutral
6** fill the trans with fluid until it starts to run out
7** put fill plug back in and WALLA your done!!!

This is not the most difficult job to do.

To maker it a little clearer, first fill with the engine off and cold, then start, shift drive to reverse, back to park and with the engine running top it off.
What fluid did you use and exactly how much did you put in?

DID exactly as you guys are describing to a t. My concern is if the o ring or something on the pick up is drawing air, causing the fluid to aerate, and increase the level. I'm very capable when it comes to the filling of a tranny. I only checked it after a short drive because i was worried my initial fill was wrong... I'm wondering if i should drop the pan and inspect my sump and filter o ring....

If the slippage continues, yes, drop the pan and check the o-ring.
Again, how many total quarts did you put in when filling it?

I have the same symptoms.
Changed the fluid.
Put in stop slip.

Make sure the "O" ring was good and the filter is right.

I have a 2001 with about 98,000 on it.

It will judder or slip - only slightly off the red light at low throttle.
You can notice that.

If you are aggressive and take off quickly - there is no slip.

I have tried to jam on the brake and make it slip as if it is against the wall.
It will judder a little.

I have been told - or read - this could be simply a worn torque converter.

You are still moving man.
So, don't worry about it.

You changed the fluid and filter.
IF the transmission goes bad - it goes bad.
After all, this is a land rover money pit.

You could pull the pan and
test the "O" ring.

It will make you feel better.
You'll also get filthy again. I did.

But I bet - it will not change a thing..

Not trying to be negative.
But I have fretted about this for a while.
Done worrying about it.

you exactly described the problem.

I put 6 quarts in when I added fluid. I might have spilt or lost a little. so maybe 5.5 or more. when it spilt out yesterday I probably lost a pint or less. would have been less but when I put the plug back in I saw the washer laying on the ground, so I had to pull it back out.. and put the washer on...

soo i would safely say there is 5 1/2 quarts still in my tranny.

funny guy. i get the irony of that statement. but rovers make even a sane man paranoid, and I'm not beyond doing something very bone headed.. I just wanted to double check
