Travel Tool Kit - Contents?

LOL...
While wheeling a few weeks ago in Ohio, six or seven rovers...front shaft had to come off one Dl...and out of the six tool kits that developed from vehicles (mine included)...no one had a 9/16 wrench. I'd brought one from home, but it was in the Silverado at the parking lot, where I off-loaded the rover. Not a bad idea to grind down an old 9/16 box end wrench, so it will fit the front flange bolts.
We finally got the shaft off with what we had, but it would have gone much better with a darn 9/16 open end.
Brian.
9/16 open end wrenches or sockets (your choice) for front drive shaft (14mm has never fit any of my D2's)
We finally got the shaft off with what we had, but it would have gone much better with a darn 9/16 open end.

Yeah I had fun out on the trail once helping a guy with a busted front shaft on an 01 D2. The rear bolts were totally trashed and we did manage to get them off however they certainly weren’t going to go back on or do us any good. We had to grind of the giant recessed C-Clip to get the old bolts out (didn’t have the tools to just take the entire flange off), and then we were able to rotate the flange remove the old bolts in one little spot & install some spare bolts and get it taken care of. In the process we all learned 9/16 open end box wrenches made it much easier to get to the nuts/bolts on the drive shaft vs 14mm.

Looking forward to your kit layout, Alex!
Another idea, in conjunction with a travel tool kit, is us putting together a tool list for each part likely to break on the road, and maintenance parts, too.
CPS needs: This tool, this tool, etc.
Front driveshaft: This tool, etc.
Rear driveshaft: This tool, etc.
Oil pan: This tool, etc.
Brake Caliper: This tool, etc.
Such a list could be stowed with the tool kit and save a lot time. It beats hunting for the correct size, in the dark, in the rain, in the cold. Diagnose the problem, check list, grab specific tools, go to work.
Several things already posted in this thread.
