Treadwright tires on 16"
Gents/Ladies,
So for awhile, I've had some 19" RR rims and rubber band tires on my disco. Worked OK for the occasional fire road trip and getting beers, but time to upgrade.
Found a set of 16"wheels from a nice guy in Orange county CA, $250/shipped to my door for 5. I wanted a smaller wheel with more sidewall on the tire, as my newest fascination is driving to kick@$$ deserted beaches to hang out, paddle, and surf. And rovers need help in sand. Heavy pigs.
He mentioned a company called Treadwright, who makes reman tires out of goodyear/bridgestone/etc casings.

$116/each shipped to my door, and tread is very similar to a BFG. Being the kinda guy that will try stuff, I have a set on order. I'm planning on punishing them in the AZ dirt, Baja MX sand, and other fun environs.
From what I have read, they used to be a little sketch, but in the last 18 months have really stepped it up.
Anyhow, in the interest of science, saving money, and using less raw material in my life, I ordered them. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
For $472/set, I'll roll the dice.

I had the Wardens I think. They look like BFG AT. I still have one as a spare. I didn't like them at all. very noisy. Not at first but they just sounded like they were going to come apart on the road. I sold them and got the Good Year Wrangler Authorities at Walmart. great tire! E Rated and looks alot like the Duratrac. Just my two cents.

I have had my Guard dogs on the truck for 2yrs as of August 30th. Had great luck with them. They are a mud tire so of course they are a little noisy. I run them of the beach, in the snow and red clay at Uwharrie as well and have never had issues. They have held up great and next time I buy tires I will be buying Treadwright again. First picture was the day I got them mounted, last picture was when I did a write up on them after a year.

Just a heads up on driving in the sand. Just about any tire will work well in sand as long s you air down. I've passed buried trucks with mud terrains in a truck with worn-out all season tires aired down to 15 psi. That being said, I haven't seen a bad review of Treadwright tires other than it might take a while to get the tires you want. Although that was a few years ago so I'm not sure how well they are keeping up with demand now. I think the quality of their tires made them more popular than they expected.

Thanks everyone. Ordered them this past Tuesday, and they showed up today. Wheels in next week and will go to the powdercoat guys for finishing.
Buddy of mine works at local ford dealer, so M/Bal will be dirt cheap. Now to find some time off work to go test them out...Got my global entry card and registered the rover too so the border crossings are now a snap!
