Default Tricky Diagnose.. Oil light at Idle

Quick question. ( LR DISCO 2003, 98K ).

Can a bad (Magnecore Cable 8 MM ) cilinder Number 7 be the cause of low Idle and therefore an Oil Light.?

Cable was burned since it was not properly Installed.

As soon as I Am on the gas it goes Off and have checked Oil Switch. Changed Oil .( 20w 40 ) . Did an Oil Test. I´m 95% sure it´s not Mechanical ..

I think its electrical.. since I ( think ) have checked everything else.

Any POINTERS please.

A clogged oil pick-up tube could also be a factor.

I know the mileage is high and all, but an '03 disco with an oil light coming on. Is it in the VIN range? Replace the oil pump, definitely do not drive it until you have it figured out or you are going to kill your engine.

Do not drive it, send me your tele number so I can call you.
When I say, don't drive it, I mean it, unless you want to buy a new engine soon, which could be a real possibility.

wooow you guys really gave me a good scare. Shop tells me it is defenetly Not an Oil related problem but I´m Still a bit worried. Please tell me if there is any way I can Make shure it´s not the fuel Pump. or an oil related problem ... Prehaps I could check it myself since I´m becoming more mechanically Orientated.

We are not trying to scare you but just last week a guy on another forum was getting an intermittent oil light and decided to just take one more trip towing his motorcycle. He is now without an engine. A 2003 with an oil light on would scare me. Take off the oil sump and see if the uptake screen is clogged. Also try to replace the oil temp sensor or whatever the sensor is that would trip the oil light. I would try to get a pressure reading when the oil light is on.

Since 03's are known to have failing oil pumps you need to have the oil pressure rechecked and get back to us with the exact numbers. You need to have it tested cold at idle then at 2000 RPM's, then warm at idle and at 2000 RPM's. Get the exact readings and get back to us before you do anything else.

Ok, he has already had the oil PSI tested like 100 times the last time he had this problem...replace your oil pressure sending unit.
It is a cheap part and a DIY if you have the right sized wrench.
It is on the engine right above the oil filter, it will have a single wire connecting to it.
Unplug the wires, unscrew the old one and the I put Teflon tape on the threads on my new one, then screw it in and snug it up good and tight, plug it back in and you should be good to go.
Now I know that last time you went almost 15,000 miles on one oil change, make sure that you are doing them at 5,000 miles as long as you are using full synthetic motor oil.
The 20/40 that you are using is a good choice for where you live.
