Angry trouble starting after head gasket replacement

99 Disco 2, I just finished replacing the head gaskets, plugs and wires. When I went to start it I get the flashing hazards. I had my son hold the inertia switch down and did the 3 lock/unlock sequence. Sometimes the hazards stop sometimes they do not.

My main problem (I think) is that the starter sounds normal but the engine is barely turning over. Sometimes it is slow, sometimes it is very slow and for extremely brief intervals it speeds up but I can not get it started. Any suggestions or guidance would be gratelly appreciated.

Sounds like there is something holding the engine back, like maybe excessive compression for some reason.
Remove all of your spark plugs and then try and crank it over, does it crank normal?

I am assuming that your battery is fully charged.

I would suggest you start with the basics and check your voltage of the battery/alternator, should be between 13.6 and 14.4.
Low voltage could be causing both these issues.

with your engine not running the battery should be at about 12.4
If its running then the numbers above apply.
I would clean the battery terminals first and put the battery on a charger even if its showing 12.4 a good charge does wonders to a low battery

I replaced the battery, but I can not get rid of the hazard lights now. My son lost his fob and broke the key in the ignition. When the locksmith came he only re-keyed the ignition so now the key does not work in the door. Is there any way else to reset the hazard lights or bypass the alarm?

Not without the key.
The alarm needs to be reset by using the key to lock and unlock the drivers door 3 times.

You can take your VIN# to the dealer and they can cut you a new key.
Then that will fit your door.

Remember back when you had separate keys for the doors and the ignition? A round one and a square one.
