Truck not going into drive\whirring gear noise.
Hello everyone,
Just picked up a new to me D2. I’m sorting out a failure to drive issue.
symptoms are
-A whirring gear noise when I place it from drive to park.
-It doesn’t move in any gear.
-It seems to go into gear when I select various gears on the transmission.
-Transfer case seems to go into its various gears.
I suspect something is going on with the transfer case because the parking brake handle is frozen. But I’m also guessing something with the transmission?

Did you look under it to see if the driveshaft was spinning? Year? Don't get under the truck to check, lay on the ground off to the side and look up.
If DS is spinning, bad axle diff. If DS is not spinning, tcase could be stuck in neutral. Are you sure the shifter is doing something?
You can drop the inspection cover to the transfer case and see if the gears are turning, just make sure all four wheels are off the ground when testing.
Tcase gears not spinning? Bad front clutch is the usual issue. Where are you located? Doc Heydary has half a dozen transmissions he will give a great price on.

Parking brake handle being frozen doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the t-case. The drum for the parking brake mounts onto the back of the transfer case, but that's about all of the interaction the two have.
Could it just be that your parking brake is frozen and that's what is stopping the truck from moving? You say that it appears to go into gear.

If the parking Pawl ratchets every time you put it in the park position that means the output shaft on the transmission is spinning, either your transfer case is stuck in neutral or you have a bad differential in one of the axles. Look to see if the driveshaft spinning first and if one of the driveshaft is spinning then you have a bad differential in the axle the driveshaft is spinning too. If not you may need to verify that your transfer case shifter is actually putting the transfer case into high or low. You can disconnect the shifter cable from the lever on the transfer case and move it manually if you need to
