Default Tune Up Advice

First - DON'T yell at me for not doing a 'search'!!
I am new here - but not new to forums.

I ask becuase I will be doing a tune up Sat morning and will be away from the internet until then (in this day and age?!?)

Anyway - two parts:

What do you recommend for a 99 Disco Series II (8 cyl of course) for:

Oil
Oil Filter
Plugs
Fuel Filter
Air Filter
Plug Wires
anything else you can think of...

With that being said - I can go to

O'Rielly's
AutoZone
NAPA
Advanced Auto

I get discounts at some of these.

I do not have too much internet access when I get there - but have access to a hoist/lift (sweet) and want to do this Saturday morning.

Thanks for the help. I promise not to ask too many 'newb' questions in the future!!

whatever oil you like
K&N HP3001
Bosch Platinum +4
no filter on a D2
8MM wires. if you replace with the bosch 7MM available at those stores, you will be doing it again soon. I like my Magnacor wires, but anything 8MM should do.

Motor oil Shell Rotella 15w-40, you will need 6 qts.
Oil filter, NAPA, WIX or Purolator.
Plugs, whatever you want, I use Iridiums.
There is no fuel filter on your truck.
Plug wires you need to use Magnecor plug wires or plan on doing them again in no time flat.
www.apexperformance.net has the best price on them, www.atlanticbritish.com also sells them now too.

Read through the "60k check list" on the top of the page.
Gear lube I go to Tractor Supply and use the house brand 85w-140, you will need 7 qts.
Read though the "60k check list" on the top of the page.

Oh yeah, before I forget...read the "60,000 mile check list"

Default 8mm wires

Gentlemen,

Is the usage of 8mm wires specific to DII or would a DI also benefit from the 8mm?

Stock wire's on both trucks is 7mm.
You can use 7mm wires.
You can also use 8mm wires, supposedly they will give better heat protection, how much more can 1mm give I personally dont think much but I still put 8mm's on my truck because they were only like $5 more for the set.

STI and Magnecor are the only brands to use, Magnecore over the STI.

I am big on both the 8 mm Magnacor wires, good price around $90 and freight on line, or STI wires from Rover Connection at $70, both are great and will last as long as you own the truck. 4418 Bosch Platinum Plus 4 plugs.
How many miles on the engine?
How about the rest of the service?
You will need help with the wires, send me your number and I can walk you thru that process.
Where is the bleed screw for your coolant system, in the upper radiator hose or in the black plastic tee where the upper hoses come together?

Clean out your PCV and check your oil separator. I cleaned a pound of crap out of my PCV the other day and couldn't believe the difference it made.

Bosch is running a mail-in rebate on plugs too, you get at least $1 back for each plug.

First off - let me tell you how lucky we (the forum) is lucky enough to have a guy like Disco Mike!!! What a great guy!
I took your (his) advice about the coolant and have been driving it all night - although I keep an eye on the temp gauge (habit!!) it hasn't budged!
I picked up some Bosch plugs and will swap those out tomorrow as well as change the oil and filter.

I do have 7mm plugs that are arching (will try to find a 'temp' solution for that in the morning until I get the 8mm).

I will go through the '60K Mile Checklist' and start pounding away at it next weekend.

I did a CarFax and I am the 4th owner - NOTHING major with the car - and the last owner drove it approx. 1200 miles in the last 30 months!!!

There are a few things that stick because of lack of use - but hell - I will get that on the 'honey do list' as well.

Thanks again for all the help (so far!!).
