Unhappy Turner Engineering no longer offering outright purchases on engines and heads!!!

It is time for me to rebuild the engine in my 04. I contacted Turner Engineering for current pricing and lead times and received this response from Frida Turner:

"Due to unavailability of good core units and SAI heads in the UK we are no longer able to offer this engine for out right sale export. V8 engines are now remanufacture of customer’s own engine only. With the distance involved this is not really an option.

If you have a good local machine shop we can supply from stock our unique ductile iron flanged liners and any other parts you may require for your engine rebuild.

Kind Regards

Frida Turner
"

I was always planning on going this route when the time came. Well this really screws up my plans!

Any good machine shop recommendations?

Just drop a fresh GM LS in it and never worry about it again: https://www.alternativeconversion.com/

Any decent auto machine shop can put in flanged liners - but you will have to call around. I am lucky we have a drag strip in town so the local machine shop does this pretty often the last quote I had was:

250 to hot pressure test the block
2500 - 3000 for machining and install
600 + 100 shipping for the liners
Totaled out to 3950 + taxes CDN.

I would pay to have crank and pistons installed and do the rest myself - it has been 40 years and I would want it done right.

But my 4.6 is doing fine.

Go 10 over on the stock sleeves, nothing wrong with that. 10 over, then go 10.5 to 1 pistons.

That is a shame. Turner was just about the only place I’d consider buying a rebuilt Rover V8 from. I can’t say I’m surprised though, with what seems like every Disco engine needing an inevitable heads/block rebuild at some point and no more in production, its only a matter of time before the usable/rebuildable block/heads supply starts to dwindle.

I’ve heard about problems with the Atlantic British engines, and I imagine the quality of blocks they are getting is not improving either.

LS is certainly becoming a lot more feasible now that there are a lot more swaps out there.

Not sure what happened to their website but Q&E machine shop in Anaheim, CA did a good job re-sleeving a rover block for me and failing that you could try D&D Fabrication.

My Turner has been great for the past 3 years. It is unfortunate the population of V8 engines does not appear to be very high compared to the diesels in the UK. Sad that Turner is not able to secure more V8 cores for re-builds as the Discos get depleted.

I got a kit from turner and a new cam and pistons. Sourced a new core from river land parts, reused my heads and had a local machine shop do the short block. It’s an old Buick engine so most of the engine shops that have been. Around should be able to handle the work with no problem.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem an easy option here. As I understand it, California requires to replace the complete emission system as well.

I'm not sure if anyone here is interested, but I am soon to be offering TD5 conversions. This can either be manual or auto, a variation of packages. They will be available in North America.

I can provide all parts needed, wiring guide, and tuned ECUs, pricing will be more competitive that a Turner V8.
