Default Turning On Daytime Running Lights on 2003 Disco

I will be moving to Canada for a long term job assignment. This mean I will have to turn on the Daytime Running Light option in my 2003 Disco.

I noticed the Disco 1s need a relay:
Day Time Running Light Relay (Genuine Part # PRC8714) - Land Rover switches/control unit/actuators from Atlantic British

I believe the Disco 2s do not need a relay. A re-programing of the BCU to turn on either the Canada (front headlamps) or European DRL (front and rear lights) is all that is needed.

Can someone confirm please?

Thanks in advance!

Day Light Running, DLR can be turned on by T4 in the BCU settings with no need for an extra relay

Also have your fog lights switched to main beam no effect

If you're not actually importing the vehicle, do you have to have them? Usually there are exceptions for such things.
Also check to see if you can just run your headlights (I think you can) which would likely be a cheaper alternative.

I'd leave your fog lamps connected to only your low beams, where they belong.

I went with an ebay option for a small unit that wires to the DRL (city lights). I cut the power lead to each and connected them to the two pig tails for this small box. I tapped off the ground wires and just kept the factory ground wires to these city lights inside the main headlight housing. I then wired the other end of the box to the battery. All the small box does is read when the battery is above regular battery voltage at 13.x charging voltage and turns the lights on as the engine is running. Simple install and cost me maybe $20 or so, I am sure there is an easy way to do this, with the correct electrical item inline like what is undoubtedly in the small box. I have had it working for a few months now.

Thanks for all for your replies.

The DRL is needed as we are moving to Canada to live. We will need to register the Disco in British Columbia and automatic DRL is a requirement.

I took it to my buddy's LR shop a couple of days ago. He hooked it up to his diagnostic programmer. The programming device does not show any BCU readings for turning on the DRL (in other words, the option for Canadian or Europe DRL). He believes we are missing a relay. Unfortunately, we are unable to find any supplier who is offering a relay for the 2003/2004 Disco. The Atlantic British site sells one for the Disco 1.... and it is $199?

Rover_Hokie:
Thanks for the link. This is very useful. I have just learnt Canada Tire is a popular local chain which installs a similar device. Looks like your option is the way to go Thanks for sharing the link.

This thread is also bringing up another option to consider:

It's just one of the regular black with green stripe relays in the under dash fuse box on 2003-2004. You still need the BCU turned on. There manuals list two relays, but one is just a jumper that should already be in the fuse box. I think I posted some photos a long time ago.

The 99-02 have a resistor. That's probably the $199 thing you saw.
