Default two odd problems

recently my 04 disco (80k miles) began doing something very strange, when i get in, and turn the rover on, i press the brake to shift from park, well when i press the brake , the parking lights come on and the interior lights dim as they should when the parking lights are on, then when i let off the brake, all the lights go back to being bright like they should...they do it if it's in park or any other gear...if i turn the parking lights on or regular lights, everything acts as it should, i've checked all fuses and all are fine, nothing is burnt up....

problemo numero 2....if it hasnt been driven for at least 5 minutes, or the first time its been turned left or right that day, the steering wheel or shaft makes a moaning sound, the power steering fluid is fine and the sound goes away as soon as it is warm, what is going on???

IIRC the moaning sound could be the steering damper

Doubt it, the steering noise is usually from the steering column and just needs to be oiled.
I also doubt the p/s fluid, it might be full but when did you actually do a fluid flush?

It has never been completely flushed, but I did empty the holding tank for the power steering fluid and replaced it with Lucas power steering fluid....didn't change a thing....any ideas on the lighting problem?

Mike, how does one oil the steering column? Don't see it in the RAVE. My steering "moans" when I turn right when dead cold.

There are multiple bushings holding various components to their respective locations. If you consider the youngest disco was made in 03-04, that would put them at a minimum of 6-7 years old. Now if you combine 7 years of constant use, not to mention previous owners who did god knows what, those bushings will wear.

Remember, rave was not designed for your average consumer to use. Not everything is in there.
