Two startup questions
In the last few days I've noticed two things when I start my truck:
1) Immediately after turning the key in the ignition, I can feel (through the brake pedal) and hear a grinding sound. It lasts for just a moment and then doesn't come back while I'm idling or driving. On subsequent starts soon thereafter, the noise may or may not occur again or may be less forceful. Seems like something to do with the starter motor, but I'm not sure
2) On the first start of the day only, when I shift into Reverse to pull out of my garage, there is often (but not always) a 2 second delay in the gear engaging. There is no delay on the shift to Drive immediately after, nor does it occur again after that first start of the day.
Full disclosure: I'm slowly building up the nerve/confidence to tackle Mike's 60K service list (aside from the greasing I already did and the oil change it had just before I bought it), so I haven't gotten to flushing/bleeding transmission fluid or anything.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance, gents.

Thanks for the quick reply, Mike.
1) ABS self-test makes a momentary grinding sound? I never would have thought that. I'll keep an ear on it to hear if it changes sound/duration as time goes on.
2) I honestly don't know when the transmission was last serviced (though the car as a whole seems to have been very well cared for), which is why I want to work through your list. And thanks for posting that up!
