Which type of oil for the Disco II V8?
I'm just curious to see what type of oil people are using here - I'm going to be changing mine tomorrow.
I'm a firm believer that oil is oil. Sure, I understand the differences between synthetics, blends, and conventional oil. But if you tell me you can tell the difference between one brand of synthetic and another, I'll believe you're full of the smelly brown stuff.
However, I'm wondering if there are other advantages to using a synthetic over a conventional besides longer change intervals. Also, I've read that diesel-aimed oils like Rotella T tend to have a few more detergents and better viscosity retention. Can anyone tell me the advantages of a high mileage oil (and what properties/additives the oils have to give them those advantages)?
Lastly, I've never seen proof of AMSOIL's superiority, especially proof that makes it worth the high price - so if you've got it, post it here.

in my disco i use 5w-30 conventional in the winter and 15w-40 rotella in the summer. our range rover has 5w-40 amsoil in it right now but ill probably switch to something i can get locally.

I only use the best Extra Virgin Olive Oil! Oh, I thought I was Mario Batali for a moment!
Actually I'm running Royal Purple Synthetic 5w40 or there abouts. My engine has not blown up so I think I'll stay with it for a while.
