U-joint greasing

U-joint greasing
Hello everyone,
This is my first post and I just bought a 99' Disco II with about 47,000miles on it. I have read that the u-joints will need to be replaced because they don't have grease fittings? Is there anything I can do with a grease gun to prolong therelife? Maybe once a month I could give them a fresh coat? I don't have a lot of money to spend because I am a humble English teacher in the most expencive country in the world(Japan). If I just replaced them, how much would I be looking at? I have a one month warranty, is there anything I should keep my eye on besides the fluid levels this month? The place I bought it from, said they would do a 'full service', I am not sure if they used cheap fluids and filters. Also, I asked them to change the fluids in the front and rear difs. Is there a way to check if they really did it?Is there something I should replacebeforeit creates a problem? I read Mr. Discomike's post on a 60,000 mile service. I'll do that as well. Nice to meet everyone. Sorry for any mistakes.

RE: U-joint greasing
The rate the 2 u-joints wear out is based on the type of driving you put your truck through, I do lots of off road trails and had to replace mine at 36,000 miles. I know people who use their truck on the road only as a daily driver and have gone 100,000 miles with out replacing them. No, there is nothing you can do to prolong their lives. They are not too expensive to replace, here in the states you would pay about $25 a piece and $100 in labor.
By the way, you found a great 99 Disco, here in the states you would be lucky to find one with less then 100,000 miles.
If in the future you have any questions, e-mail me directly.
