Better test than the pot of boiling water - put a hose splice in line in the bottom hoses, connect the top radiator hose direct to the manifold outlet, effectively eliminating the thermostat. The problem with the LR OEM thermostats is they can fail in multiple ways:

1. They do not open, all coolant bypasses the radiator.
2. They do open, but the bypass valve does not close. Some coolant goes through the radiator, some goes around it. Truck still overheats.
3. 1 and 2 intermittently..

Inline thermostat will eliminate you every worrying about thermostats.

Yeah that's exactly what happened, the thermostat was a dud, no longer feel like dealing with the warranty. I lost money but it's not like I could get a refund from Rovers North. Anyways I'll try out the inline mod. I'm having a hard time picturing the instructions laid out on me, would you perhaps have a pic or point me in the right direction so I can get an idea.

Hang in there. I had some of the same issues. Blew 3 year old head gasket with no warning. After new head gasket and cooling system refresh still ran hot. Educated by Extinct on cooling system troubleshooting. Inline mod brought temps down 20+ degrees. faulty one year old radiator identified with temp gun, replacement brought temps down another 10 degrees. Always something to learn with these trucks !
