Hi Guys,
I noticed that one of the disc brake surface is uneven.
I guess the disc pad is not completely touching the entire disc brake surface, unlike the other three disc brakes.
I reckon if I buy a new brake pad (due anytime now) and place it over the uneven disc, the raised surface will just "eat up" the new disc pad.
What are my options?

Is the surface rough?

 

The new pad will quickly match the rotors surface.

The inner part of the disc brake where the disc pad comes in contact with is smooth.
The outer part is rough and a bit raised, since the disc pad does not come in contact with it.
If I install the new pad, the brake pad will come in contact with raised outer part of the disc brake first and thin out the pad.
Can I just replace the disc pad and will it even out eventually?

 

I know exactly what you are talking about..
And yes it will..

But just to be thorough, go to your local hardware store and get a caliper to measure the thickness of the rotor
Then check out the Rave Manual and make sure the rotor is not below
the minimum thickness.

Its easier to do it right the first time I have found...

 

Just out of curiosity, what year, which wheel and how many miles? You may also have a caliper hanging up causing more wear on one side then the other.

 

I think you have a bad caliper.
First bleed the brakes and see what happens.

 

1. 1997 D1
2. Right front wheel
3. 111,500 km (69,282.888 miles)

The outer half inch is raised by less than a millimeter (by the feel of it)
I have no problems with braking though.
What's the working diagnosis? and of course treatment?

I would definatly check the Thickness

Better to do it right once, then doing it twice..
Its actually cheaper to do it right the first time..

 

The r/f brake on nearly all vehicles takes the most wear because of the camber on most roads. That being said, are these original rotors? How much pad is left on both front brakes?
