Default Upstream Vs. Downstream O2 differentiation

Hey gang,

Having a P0134 issue. Replaced all 4 of my 02 Sensors with the Atlantic British kit. Also had some exhaust leaks repaired.

Haven't driven the truck in a while and getting the P0134.

Fuse is good, wires look fine. While the truck was at the shop getting welding done, a part of me feels that the O2 sensors could have been swapped. How can I tell which is upstream and which is downstream?

Thanks for any insight. Hoping to take the truck on a much needed drive up to the desert next week.

Thanks!
Ian

The connections for the upstream and downstream sensors are different so you can not mix them up and they are not interchangable.

Upstream is located between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Down stream are located after the catalytic converter toward the muffler.

I'm currently having the same issue with P0134. Mine is only for only Bank 1 upstream.

Which bank(s) are you getting the code for?

I’ve had this to with no fix after replacing sensors.

I had 2 issues

1 - connector to o2 sensor looked ok. But really look in there and mine had wires splitting and coming off.
I cut the plug out and put new plug in

2- fuel purge valve was sticking open letting fumes into intake making the rig run ****ty and exhaust smell and effecting my drivers side o2

Thanks guys,

I will give all of these a close look.

I'm thinking it's wiring, I bought the car with this code and figured the exhaust leak and old O2 sensors were the issues. New O2 sensors and all leaks fixed. So it must be wiring.

I'm not sure what Bank it's from. I'm only getting the P0134 code, no other corresponding codes. Going to put a few miles on the truck to see if it triggers anything else after I give everything a closer look.

I will also check out the fuel purge valve while I'm in there today.

Thanks!

So I ordred a Bosch replacement for the Bank1 Sensor1 upstream from Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018R5SOW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018R5SOW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Put it in, cleared my codes, went for a short, but spirited drive and the code is gone.

I just put in 4 brand new Walker O2 sensors from Atlantic British, guess one was a dud.

Hoping to take the truck up to Joshua Tree next weekend to get a full drive cycle run in to make sure things are all tip-top.

Thanks for all the info, I gave everything a look and came to the conclusion that the 02 sensor just must have been a lemon. I threw all of the old ones away when I did the replacement, so I didn't have a spare one to rule this out.

Fingers crossed.

I've always understood to stay away from Walker brand O2 sensors. Glad you sorted it out other than the whistle.

i (and others on the forum here) have had far better luck with walkers than with bosch sensors. for a while it looked like the bosch units were at a failure rate of 30-50% out of the box.

That’s why I went walker from Atlantic british.

decided to grab a Bosch unit from amazon just to test.

Plugged it in cranked up th truck and she was happy.

For 50$ it was worth the gamble and it paid off.
