Yes, the roof rail extensions are available as a option (see page 30 of the attached Accessories catalog). The sources for these rail extensions are getting rare. This is one of the two places that I know which still has some in stock:

Land Rover Discovery Genuine OEM Factory Lamp Guards

The rails are mounted with bolts which require drilling into the roof. You will need to remove part of the rear interior panels to place the mounting bolt. The position of the drilled hole must be fairly precise. It was to be accurately drilled into one of the roof support channels to support the loads on the roof rack. My buddy who owns a LR shop mentioned LR actually supplies a special positioning tool to ensure the accurate position of the holes to be drilled.

I noticed the mounts are similar to the front. My headliner is out for sunroof repair. Made me think about it. It would look better imo.

Maaaaaannnnn. When I build this roof rack soon (within a week or two or more ) I plan on pulling them both off and capping the holes. I have the extension. If anyone would want them I'd give them away honestly.

Shows how much I knew, I just figured the rails were there to secure a strap or 2 around to cinch down an object to the roof. Since I have no sun/moon roof on my model it doesn't matter to me if it covers the whole area. Instead of the relatively expensive cross bars I might just get some 1x3's in oak or teak, round the edges with my router and permanently attach them. I just see it as potential real estate going unused and after my spring camping trip with 5 grand kids I realized how much stuff you sometimes need to pack for a week of camping.
