Default Using a smaller spare

Hello all. I have a 2004 D2 with 17" wheels and tires. The spare is a 15", which was originally what size all 4 tires were.

Question is: Can I drive a short distance with that 15" spare on the rear (which is flat) for a short trip to the tire store to have a good one mounted. Be about 10 miles. Will that cause transmission/drivetrain issues?

i don't think any discovery came with 15 inch or 17 inch wheels.

do you mean 16 and 18 inch?

and i thought all 2004's came with 18 inch wheels.

to answer question, though. i would stick with the same size wheels and tires for all 5.

Sorry, thinking of other vehicle. Yes, it has 18's and the originals were 16", which the spare is.

Not talking about a full time solution. Talking about driving 10 miles to get a new tire mounted.

Yeah that works as long as you just go a short distance and keep it below 40. I have had a few flats with that setup and no problems.

You want to keep the overall diameter of the spare and the other 4 tires about the same. A 255/65-16 is the same diameter as a 255/55-18 which were the stock sizes, so either of these sizes paired together won't cause any damage. If you change the diameter of either of these, it may cause some problems if you drive very far.

Thanks guys. I'll take it slow and shouldn't have any issues.

Also, if the flat tire isn't leaking very fast, you might just air it up to about 50psi and drive it to the store to be fixed. That's easier than mounting the spare tire on.
