Value of Discovery with new engine?
I need some help determining the value of a Discovery I'm trying to sell. It's an 04 SE with 96,000 miles. It had its engine replaced with a brand new one 200 miles ago. The replacement was free, covered under an extended warranty. Its value without a brand new engine is around $10,000 or so. How much do you think I should sell it for?
Thanks
Thanks

beauty is in the eyes of the beholder..........if that new engine has a warranty I wouldn't be afraid of asking a little more for it as long as the warranty is transferable to the new owner . People are funny about such things, one guy might say " wow ! a new engine ", the next guy " uh oh , a new engine ? ". Either way the new motor shouldn't decrease the value, but depending on the potential buyer it may not increase it either. Good luck
Even with a new engine, I'd ask "why did the engine have to be replaced?" and "Why are you getting rid of it after 200 miles?"
Unfortunately, I've been down this road...adding parts to cars, fixing them up, and once even getting a paint job only to sell the car a short while later.
It all never amounted to anything more than the going rate.
Let's face it...unless you bought a '71 Hemi 'Cuda convertible (only 7 or so made) new off the lot or inherited a Bughatti, cars *are not* an investment. I consider every penny spent on a car as money down the drain in terms of adding anything of value.
Instead, I fix it or accessorize because I need to or because I enjoy it.
My suspicion, though, is that you'll get the higher end of whatever it books for should the right buyer come along.

But you also have to keep in mind, while the engine is new(er). There is still wear on transmission and other drivetrain. I think asking at Value is more then fair. Well, ask a $1,000 more then value, then accept at value.
I'm selling it for someone else so I don't know too much of the details, but I was told "failure to a cylinder sleeve."
Darton Sleeves for an LS1 is like $1,500? I am sure with labor it would not cost near the price of a brand new imported motor? If it was me, I would get a low milage used motor or tried to put an LS6 in there. Since I can get a brand new LS6 for $3,600 last I checked.
