Valve cover gasket
I noticed some oil loss so I topped off then started and saw some smoke and I can see my passenger side valve cover gasket is leaking a lot of oil. I am going to try to tighten bolts first but am preparing to fully replace them if that doesn’t work. I have rave and videos on doing the job but do you guys suggest anything else while I’m there. So far I have the coil packs, plugs and wires. Already did pcv valve mod and replaced that plastic part inside the tube that is the filter . What else should I do while I’m in there
Juke is right, take your time. Work in a pattern around the 4 bolts, tightening each one a little at a time. Carefully monitor the edges of the gasket to make sure it doesn't start to compress unevenly and protrude out the side, this is important. This means the gasket is not seated in the cover's groove correctly and it will leak. If this happens, remove the cover, reseat the gasket and start over. The pass side on my truck to 3 or 4 tries to get right but ultimately it sealed and it hasn't leaked a drop in 10k miles.
If you do the PCV mod, you should not put anything back in the tube in the valve cover. Remove the plastic baffle and don't replace it. Your initial post makes it sound like you installed a new baffle.
I’ll let the experts chime in here to confirm but I believe the purpose of the PVC mod is to remove the plastic baffle all together.
I think you are right. I for some reason thought you reinstall the baffle. Looked at best4x4 write up and it looks like he removed the baffle and drilled a larger hole on the metal tube that goes on the valve cover
I don't class myself in that expert group, but the instructions are pretty clear that you do NOT replace the baffle. If you have done the PCV mod, pull out the baffle and throw it away.
