Default Valve Kit - Headgaskets

My engine overheated and started running really rough. Took to mechanic and they said i need a Valve Kit that contains 2 head gaskets and 2 valve cover Gaskets. I am trying to save money by ordering the parts on line. I have a 96 Discovery SE7 with 119K. I found this Gasket Set and was wondering if this is what I need.

Thanks -

Mike

Thanks for the post - The Gasket set that you posted - does this include the 2 head gaskets and valve cover gaskets?

Thanks

Yes, I didnt look at it close enough the first time, but that first gasket kit for $120 has 2 head gaskets and 2 valve cover gaskets as well as the valley pan. Basically it has every gasket that you need to do a top end rebuild.

You will also need a intake manifold gasket, apx. $50 and a set of head bolts for $80 along with all the fluids, hose and anything else that shows up like head work.
How much labor are they quoting you?

Not sure of the labor cost. It is a mechanic that is a good family friend so I am sure they have something worked out. They have already torn down the engine and told me to get a valve kit.

I did get a quote from another shop and they wanted 1400 to 2000 plus for the job.

$1100 to $1200 is the upper labor limit on a D1 except if you need to work on the heads.

I flat rate DIs for $2000 and Motronics engines for $2400. It's a rough job and if done right, can be difficult to make money at.

When budgeting for this job, include new hoses, water pump and thermostat. THose parts are relatively inexpensive and might not have fared well during the over-temp condition. Plugs and wires are a good idea now as well-especially for a Motronics engine as the coils are exposed.
