If it doesn't still have the actual heated glass, I wont have to wait too long for a cracked windshield here in Alaska. I'll get it swapped out for the real thing the next time I have to have the insurance pop in a new one.
You don't have to "pop off the cowl" to verify. The connectors are right there, in each corner below the bonnet hinges, in plain sight.

Sorry, I did not realize that you already have the heated windshield option. You do not need to re-program it if yours was already turned on.

So, turns out at some point a non heated windshield was put in it.

Next time I have to swap in a new one due to road damage, I'll get them to put in the right one. I'm sure by spring I'll have a crack in it.

just because the plugs are there does not mean it had a heater windshield, just like the heated seat plugs the all have them

My '99 D2 has the plugs next to the cowl for heated windshield, but obviously didn't come with that option.

Has anyone retrofitted a heated windshield into an older D2? Would be a nice thing to have this winter.

That doesn't surprise me, considering that there is a lot of BMW in these rigs...

I do coding/programming on BMWs, and have been tempted to play around with the D2 and see if I can get INPA to connect
