Default Vibration or Misfire

Hi there.

I have a 2000 disco 2.

Over the last few months i have had lots of stuff done to it to keep it running.

The last thing i had done a few weeks ago was the water pump, cam chain cover gaskets, head gaskets and plugs and wires changed.

The last few days the thing has been running rough around 1800-2500 revs and i'm not sure if it's a misfire or a vibration.

I do have an abs amigo but thats not showing any codes? Does the abs amigo read all codes or just codes relating to the 3 amigos?

I may remove the front prop to see if the vibration is still there but i need to use the rover to get to work. How long can you drive with the front shaft disconnected? The rover has done 126000km.

Thanks.

To my knowledge, the abs amigo scanner only reads those specific faults. Get an ultragauge or other scanner and see if you have some pending misfires and that will answer your question.

As far as removing the front prop, only do this if you have a CDL engaged. Do NOT drive with it removed and no CDL.

Ok thanks.

Should a dash light come on if theres a misfire? As i have no dash lights on.

When i got home i put the thing in park and reved it between 1500-2500 rpm and no misfire when stationary so i'm now leaning towards vibration.

I'll go get a code reader today and plug it in. Will any do? I'm on a budget if a need a new front prop.

If it's misfiring enough a CEL WILL come on and you WILL be damaging your very expensive Y pipe cats.

The vibration should be present at idle if that's what it is otherwise like we discussed you should pull your front prop shaft and use a 10mm wrench to engage your CDL lock and see if the vibration goes away.

So i'm going to pull the front prop as a precaution but just plugged in a code scanner and got

P1884
P0102
P0112

I have reset but don't want to drive the thing to see if the miss or vibration is still there as i'm scared of the worst case scenario.

Prop shaft it was!

No misfire and no vibration. Also no codes!

So i couldn't get the bolts out of the transfer case side?

Are they ok to leave loose and use until i fit the new prop as i don't have a big socket to get that front plate off.

Yes do not try to remove them unless the threads are messed up.

Mike so let me clear this up, you got these codes with the scanner but did not have the light illuminated on the dash???

Now as for your codes i would take the mass air flow sensor off the vehicle and get a can of " crc mass ir flow cleaner" then you need to understand that soaking the hell out of it will probably cause more damage then good. So now that it in your hand look inside at the small little wires "2" you want to spray a light spray of the crc on to those wires "lightly" but maybe two or three light sprays and then let it dry completely before reinstalling it. See if that helps then make sure it is plugged in all the way and that the plug is clean maybe a little dielectric grease to keep moisture out.

Thanks!

I'll wait and see if the codes re appear when i get home from work tomorrow then pick up a can of that stuff. Is it worth me just replacing the MAF sensor. The guy i bought it from gave me a new one but it's not a bosch.
