Default Vibration. Not U Joints?

Hi there ( Disco 2003 ) 85K

Think I just finished bringing my disco to Tip Top Cond after 1 year of work and a lot of learning.. 1 Year ago I dindnt know that cars needed Oil.

The thing is that Im getting a humming sound at speeds over 90 MPH and a strange vibration when letting go on gas. and my Shop said that vibration can only come from drive shafts or inbalanced wheels. ( is this true )

I have changed the entire front Drive shaft with Grease Fittings , the rear DS had them alrready and wheels are balanced. ( I grease them Up every 10,000 Kilometers.)

I have a very small leak in my transfer and check level every week wile waiting for a spare part so I can finish the reppair.

Do you think that these noise and vibration can come from the tranny or T Case?

I would apreciate any Pointers And most Likely save some $.

Thanks

Well you dont need to check your t-case level once a week. Once a month is all that is needed. Unless you have a huge leak and you are leaving puddles.

As for the vibration, it is either wheels out of balance or a driveshaft out of balance.
Do you feel the vibration in the steering wheel or your butt? Or does the whole truck shake?

Have you had the wheel alignment checked? Did you rebuild the front drive shaft yourself? If so, did you take it to a shop for balancing afterward? I wouldn't be surprised if wind resistance alone would make a Rover vibrate at 90mph.

You can reach 90mph? I think that may be why you're getting vibration, I've never taken my DI over 75.

If you have cheap tires you could have a out of round tire.

It is most likly a out of balance tire, it is very hard to balance a tire for high speed, especcially a heavy SUV tire.
SUV's are not made to drive fast.

Did I read 90mph?

I second not going over 75mph in a Disco.

I Bought the Drive Shaft from Rover Parts , With greaseable U joints and have checked them both for balance. as for wheels I have Khumo ( 18 ยด) Tires and have checked them twice for balance and alingement.1/3 Life Left ... and all seems to be OK. I Use to Take my disco when it was new up to 110 MPH or 170 KM with cruise control for long journeys but now it is making these weird noise when decelerating at arround 90 MPH specially on a down Hill No Puddles Or anything just a small Leak but not to bad. If I try to go Beyond 90 it will start to make this HUMMMINIG noise that will increase with Speed. I Blew My Drive Shaft arround 1600 Milles Ago And No apparent Damage to Tranny Or T Case.

You are Not allowed to go beyond 65 MPH in Mexico but trust me Every Body Does and these speeds are Not really Uncomon down here.We Mix Gasoline with Tequila and a lot Of CHILE.

Guess Ill stop driving so Fast on My Disco but still Im Concerned. I also have a very slight Humming Sound Wen Not Accelerating All The Time. For Your Relppies I Assume That I am Not Using My Disco Correctly , and Promise that if you Give me some pointers Ill Drive at 80 MPH TOPS. ( Promise)

Thanks.

Oh I can Feel The vibration On The wheel When Decelerating and The Humming sound on The gas peddal and sounds Like Its Coming From The Middile Of The Car ( rear Side)

Could It Be the Parking Breake.?

Feel I Direspected My Disco. It belonged To my Grand Father and Intend to Keep It for a long Time.

Thanks.

Check your rotoflex for cracks. A bad one will cause vibration when accelerating oe decellerating, when ever your applying power to the wheel. If your cruising speed is 90mph you will be applying alot of power to overcome the aerodynamic resistance. I wonder what the MPG is at that speed.
