Want to build a 4.6l
So I have decided I want to build one of these so that I have a new motor in my 2004 4.6L Discovery S with secondary air. I have a very skilled engine builder friend who will assist me a long the way so that I get it call correct.
Can these engines be upgraded for stronger power and performance or is it best just to build it to factory specs?
Has anyone done this and has a thread I can look through to find the best parts and guidance for this project?
Thanks for any help!

And the power is sort of "depends". If you look at the HP ratings for the 4.8 LS, it is about 70 more HP and actually less torque than the 4.6. Land Rover gave the 4.6 a very truck like camshaft, so the torque is built at very low RPM. Other british sports cars that used the Rover V8 used a more LS like car camshaft and saw as much as 325 hp. Of course you can put a similar camshaft in your Disco if so desired.
Of course, as the LS engines also come much larger, 5.7, 6.0, 6.2, etc., you can get as much power as you want really. But they are not cheap no matter what anyone says unless it truly is a junkyard motor, and the rebuild kits are much more expensive. Check prices on both and you will see.

If you want to try to find a cheapish chevy 6.2 ls to build check your local Isuzu NPR or Chevy commerical fleet shop. The cab over trucks tend to get run over loaded and when they run hot all disco owners know what happens
Needed parts for a 3500 cab over truck this week and the local shop we use said he had a stash of them pulled for replacements. A polite call to the service manager of one of these shops could yield you a good block to rebuild if GM doesn't call to get them back.
Most of the trucks we service have run the Chevy 6.0. We've had very good service out of them...with tons of hard miles.
