It's good to hear you've never been disappointed with the truck's performance in Warsaw winters. I'm sure it can get really bad really quick up there. It will be great not to have to worry about snow in the mornings. And the rest of the year, it will be nice for camping and getting me where I want to go off road. I like the low belt line of the vehicle too because my sons will be able to see well out of it when we are in scenic areas.

I had a 96 Grand Cherokee for about three years in college. It had the quadra trac 2 system and was great in all conditions. It was comfortable and reliable while I had it. I guess I have nothing bad to say about it except "eh". It's a great vehicle, but it isn't special like a Land Rover and I can't even explain that. It just is what it is I guess.

That was my exact reaction - it did everything well, just lacked personality and did nothing to perfection.

Im looking for the same truck. Below is one in Fishers...not far from you. 60K miles. Price seems to be decent, but sure you could work that a bit.

Im orig. from Logansport, now a Dallas transplant.

From what I have found... plan to set money aside to address front drive shaft with greaseable ujoints, tb leak, a tune-up, and all fluids if there are no maintaince records. I know if I purchase one all that will be done before it goes on the road if it has not been addresses. Be ready to put head gaskets on it if the need arises. Once all services are up to date seem to be decent vehicles.

Best of luck in your search and happy holidays.

Now THERE are two magnificent descriptions of most other off-road-capable vehicles and probably two of the best reasons to drive a Land Rover. Maybe it's wrong, but my heart still does a little hop when I walk toward my Disco to jump in for a drive.

I agree with Oyster. You sound like the right kinda guy to get one of these machines. BUT if you're saying you need something reliable because you don't have the disposable income to fix it, um well...

They are finicky vehicles. Excellent, beautifully drivable but finicky vehicles. There will be money outlay on a regular basis. The awesome thing is that this forum and others will help you keep those outlays to a reasonable level. If you get a well-maintained Disco you'll be ahead of the game. I'm playing catch up with mine right now.

Spring for it. It's a blast and will likely lead to many pleasantly memorable years, even if some of those memories are in a garage up your elbows in engine parts and reading the Rave over for the 20th time.

And that's even a bit of a stretch...everything I've done on this vehicle so far has been entirely manageable (no HG yet but I have done the upper/lower intakes).

Mix some grit with awe-tinged admiration and you've got the perfect attitude to be a Land Rover owner.

Thanks for the link! I really like that one. I might try to head over this weekend and take a look at it.

Friday, I am heading to the Cincinnatti area to make a trip to the Land Rover dealership and to Jungle Jim's. I will probably stop at the Dayton dealer too on the way home. I would like to get my hands on a 2004 Discovery sales brochure. I wonder if they can still order one for me or if they might have old stock hiding on some mezzanine somewhere.

I'm not too terribly afraid of having to spend extra money to maintain a LR mainly because the pre-owned purchase price is so reasonable now and I actually look forward to wrenching on one. I do hope I can confidently put my family in the thing without the constant worry of show-stopping failure on the road. I guess what I'm saying is I much prefer preventative maintenance to expensive repair. I actually enjoy the maintenance side.

I have and it's great. I probably watch it once a week on average!
