the engine is not a ford design at all. it is based on a buick design from the 60's. the ford 4.6 is a overhead cam motor. the LR engine is a overhead valve design.

as for strength of parts. remember a truck is only as weak as your wallet is to fix it. if you think it might break then it will. if you can fix it or beef it up and money is no object. then you have no worries.

but i wouldnt worry. they are build to last longer then most anything on the planet if taken care of.

rover on

If you'd like the 3rd row seating get any model ending in "--7" ex SE7, SD7... If it just says SE or SD or S then it has 5 seats.

Since your are not familiar with Disco's I thought I would mention, 35's to 37'" tires are not worth the cost effort and needed modifications, stay more with the 33 to 34" range.
Also Bill Davis at Great Basins Rovers, in Salt lake City can help you with the gears and lockers.

Since you are not very familiar with Rovers here are a few links to help you get better acquainted.

Rover axles are equal to Dana 44's in strength.

I only have 31's on mine and follow other vehicles with 34-37's, except for a few clearance issues, I can pretty much hold my own. These things are very dependable and I wont hesitate to grab another if this one ever dies
