Default Warning Light!

Hi all,

I was driving home tonight and a red warning light flickered on and off twice with the space of a minute, then I was home and switched off. Its a 97 3.9 v8i auto. The light looks like a muffler with 'heat' coming out the top. According to the online manual (http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/) it refers to a over heating catalytic converter. I was just driving across town for a few minutes - temp gauge was normal. Running as sweetly as normal.

What does this mean exactly ie the cause and whats the fix? Hopefully its not catastrophic!

Cheers

Trev

I have never seen that light. I've never even heard of it. Is your truck an NAS?

I have not heard or seen that waring light before either.
Can you get a picture of it and post it?
Have you looked in your owners manual for what it is and means?

Hi all,

The truck is Jap spec, I'm in NZ all discos here & there are heaps of them are 3.9i or diesel. Attached is a word doc showing the light as taken from the owners manual from the website I posted before. It comes on with the battery light etc and turns off when the vehicle starts. I went for a drive just a short while ago (20km) & no sign of the light. Might just be typical British electrics, but probably a sign of things to come I think...

Sorry, I cant upload a pic - I took a snap shot form the PDF file & pasted into word, but its slightly to large to upload. Im surprised that light is unknown to you guys, I was under the impression that the reason cats were fitted was because of American emission regulations.
Any other ideas as to how I can attach the text & picture of the light from the PDF?

Cheers

This is what he is referring to. After reading it I understand what the light is indicating but have no idea why the cat would overheat unless it is failing.

I woulds say then that he needs a tune up assuming that he has a V8.
If the cats are overloaded with unburnt fuel they will overheat and will destroy themselves, if they get hot enough they can start a fire.

Thank you, I went back and scanned it before I posted but I guess I missed it.
