Default Wash, Clay and Wax

While I do appreciate the rugged qualities of the rover, I try to keep it washed and waxed so it preserves the value, paint, etc. Over the weekend, I ended up finally getting to the wax, and had some pretty good results.

The paint is in good condition, but it has the normal tar and road grime on it from life. I washed the car, then used Griot's paint clay to pick up all the imperfections in the paint. It's amazing how smooth the paint was after I got done with it. This includes all the tar and road grime on the bottom of the door panels, etc. Took me less than a half hour to do the entire rover, and that includes a coffee break.

Got out the orbital polisher and waxed the car using Griot's one step paint polish. They call this their "SUV" wax for a daily driver that you only have to do a couple times a year. After getting all the grime off the paint, the wax goes on and off beautifully. It's a dark blue paint job, so this is actually a feat.

Total time was a little more than an hour from when I pulled the dried rig into the garage to when I was putting all the wax and polisher away.

Does the wax leave a white residue? I used some stuff that didn't and was 100% carnauba (or they claimed) and it was fantastic. I cant find it anywhere...

Sounds like good stuff.
And even for the people who have mud on their rovers 90% of the time, it is good to do a few waxes a year. Clay bars are amazing even though I will never understand how a peice of clay does that, I love em'!

I've had excellent results with Ice made by TurtleWax (I think) Even if you get some on the black plastic, there is no discoloration. It is kind of expensive for a bottle, but it goes a very long way. It doesn't last as long as a good carnuba, but it only takes about 30 minutes to do a complete application including wiping off. It lasts about three months on the truck. No buffing at all and excellent shine and water/bug repelling properties. My only gripe is that the bottle only stays good for a couple of years. I'm 3/4 through a bottle and it doesn't wipe off as easily anymore. It is a polymer based finish. I wax all of my vehicles about 4-6 times a year. Overkill? Maybe, but it is easier to keep them clean.

A buddy of mine sold me his 99 Disco II 3 years ago and he used this stuff on it... goes thru the soft was and wax and still shines.
