Outfitting my 2000 Disco II with a snorkel. The only snorkel I have been able to find is the ARB Safari. I'm sure I have seen others that connect to the fender without the elongated tube running parallel to the fender top. Any other good snorkel manufacturers out there?

Also, is there anything else I need to do to my motor to make it safe for a river crossing? I have read somewhere in this forum that if you powerblast your engine after a day of 4wheeling, to cover the alternator beforehand. If I have to cover the alternator, then how the heck will it hold up if its underwater?

Anyone know what type of bumper this is on the grey Disco pictured?

 

Mantec makes a good snorkel. Not sure on the bumper.

 

For a single water crossing, just go through and make sure the water doesn't go above the headlights and you're in the clear. If you plan on doing it a lot consider extending your axle breathers and as you said getting a snorkel. You don't need to cover the alternator. These trucks can handle some pretty deep water without any mods at all.

I believe the bumper in question may be a Safari-gard bumper. Even if it's not, if you like that one you'll like theirs!

that looks like a Rovertym winch bumper. All you need to extend the breather is a longer rubber hose, not sure what size..maybe 3/8"..look under your rover and measure. any parts store sells rubber hose.

 

Check this site for that bumper also, if the one you saw was a Safari Guard and you like the style, consider the RTE because it is a whole lot stronger.
How deep are you planning on going? It will take more then a snorkel to keep the water out of your truck and it's electronics.

You need to use dielectric grease on every electric plug that you can find make sure that you get the fuel pump plugs also.

 

Also plug all the body holes, check all you weather seal other wise your carpet will be floating.

 

Double seal your doors as well with thick weather stripping. I've been in standing water as deep as a inch above my side door windows for a good three miles and nothing leaked in since I had done that mod.
