Default Water leak passenger side - please help

Hey guys,

I've been having some water come in the passenger side from the middle console but up by your feet if you were sitting in the car. It seems like it's when I turn a corner and am running the A/C...the water is pretty hot when it comes in. The other day it completely soaked the floor mat and it started to stink pretty bad in the car like stale water or mold or something.

Not sure what it could be - maybe a leak in the A/C unit? I haven't taken off any panels yet to look where it's coming from, but does anyone have an idea what it could be?

I really apprecaite your feedback and thanks in advance!

Sounds like the heater core is leaking. Check your coolant level and it will probably be low. If so you need to get this fixed before you drive it anymore. You don't want to overheat and cause engine damage.

either the heatcore or condensate drains, there are two condensate drains in the firewall one on each side. Should look like 1/2 inch rubber tube just sticking out of the wall maybe and inch or so long.

I checked the coolant and it looks at a decent level - it's not low or anything...I tried pulling those panels back but couldn't get in there.

You need to get at this from under the car. It makes a wet spot for each side on the pavement with condensate water from the AC when idling in the hot muggy summer. Mud and bugs fill up the drains and you get what is left. The drains are located in the space between the firewall and the transmission shifter. If no ramps, you can pull that thing up on a curb. Don't work under there if just supported by tire jack, it is well over 4000 pounds and can squash possums and careless owners.

I have a friend with an 04 DII with the same problem, Ive been telling him for months that it takes just a few minutes to do, and I have full access to a lift to get the trucks 6 feet off the ground to clear those tubes easily and safely. Instead, he cant find the time so he drives around in a musty/mildew smelled truck... oh well I told him exactly what it was and how to get at it multiple times as well as offering assistance of the lift.

Get those tubes cleaned out so your truck doesnt start smelling worse as time goes by.

Thanks for the tip man. I do have ramps and will pull her up on them tomorrow. So it's the A/C drains that are clogged and causing it to flow inside?

Yep, it can't escape so just soaks the carpet when it overflows and Mr. Mold will be moving in. Air conditioners work by having a cold "coil" that air moves across, humidity from the air condenses on the coil and is drained away. So you cool and dry the air for people to enjoy. On big AC systems, the condensate drain will produce what looks like a garden hose running in the summer. May "green" places with drought restriction will capture this water and use for irrigation. Made from the water vapor in the air that surrounds us.

They are way up in there, so you have to look for them on both sides of the tranny tunnel from under the rover pointing straight down, and that is why I guess I had a hard time finding them. They are about 1/2" diameter black tubes that are tapered on the bottom ends and end up looking like a couple triangles laying inward towards each other, like a teepee, with the seams between the triangles being cuts like a baby bottle nipple that open up when the water builds up and lets it out. Over time dirt and crude get in there from the road and stop it up. You will just need to squeeze on the nipples a bit, and the smelly water will come running out all over you, so dress appropriately, and paper towels are useful.

Again, I say it took my a couple times under there for me to find them as they are tucked up in there on each side forward a bit just under where the firewall is on the top side. They are kind of alone in an area by themselves, and on the top side they are oval shapes where they snap in to the body, so when looking from the bottom in to the darkness, they may appear oval as the round tube is off to one size within that oval and when looking up, it is sometimes are to see the round tube part that is the bottom of the drain tube.

My wife was so happy to get rid of that smell and her purse being wet that she sits by her feet and loops over the hook coming off the console below the dash on the passenger side. Funny how she sees things that I do not see as the reason to fix things sometimes. LOL!

See below link with pics. Only takes a couple minutes once you find them, a flash light can help to.

For the love of God pull up the carpet and dry under it. Don't let your truck start rusting. Sounds like heater core if its "hot". You can bypass the heater core with one hose on the passenger side by making a loop to the 2 heater hoses. If you no longer have the issue its the heater core.(Heater core rubber washers are a complete pain in the butt. to get on)
