Default Water pump

Okay I was on here about a month ago and was looking into my water pump I told you guys I had a squeaky noise coming from under the hood sounded like a pulley so I took my belt off and was able to move the fan back in forth towards the motor and towards the front of the car.... So the squeaking noise has turned into a grinding sound and vibration and codes p0300,p0308,p0304,p0303,p0307,p0302,p0305,p0306 did my water pump pulley just go out or is it something else?

Default Your kidding right?

Your kidding right..You could move your fan back and forth and figured it was water pump..and didn't replace it for $100.00 .... Forget the codes...... as if you dont fix the water pump....... the only code you will be reading is on the invoice for a new motor....

See pix. When it begins to wobble, the clearance inside is very small, so it eats aluminum and circulates that in the coolant. Eventually will sieze, which is causing engine load shift so dramatic that it fools ECU into believing it is a misfire. Can actually weld itself rigid, results in serpantine belt being melted on pulleys.

Solutions include - junkyard from D1 or D2 (same pump - $6), new, reman, and aftermarket. BP Utah (and perhaps others ) have a bronze impeller pump that will flow a little more water. When changing pump keep bolts in order, they are various lengths. Be careful removing so you don't wring one off in the front cover.

Because you have had this much of a problem, if funds are available I would replace fan clutch at same time. $50 conversion one in the tech sticky write up. Fan clutch and water pump have been carrying on a close relationship for years, and were just about to hold hands and jump off the cliff together.

Flush system, new stat if you can swing it. There have been posts about an alternate lower temperature "soft spring" stat that fits, just made for a different Rover, drops temp 6 - 10 degrees. Stat may be plugged with shavings from the water pump, and other sludge.

While you have serpantine belt off, before any bolts come off, rotate everything else to check for vibration, rough spots. Most likely fan clutch. Is easier to get fan clutch off if you have belt on, and lean on a breaker bar to "add" tension to the tensioner pulley, then whack your wrench on the pump toward the passenger side (NAS) sharply with a hammer.

Yes replace the water pump, clear the codes and see what happens.
A bad water pump will not set off and trouble codes.

Stay on top of those codes, get them cleared and while you are having them clear at the local parts store, get your charging system tested, need to make sure it is not causing all those codes.
How many miles on your truck, when was it tuned along with new 8 mm plug wires and how long has the check engine light been on?
