Water Wetter?
Hello All!
Anyone out there using Water Wetter from Redline? I was in Autozone today and it seems like it would be a great additive if it does what they claim. Hate to try something and have it damage my motor, so any experience or suggestions are appreciated.
Regards,
Nick

I also added it after getting a new rad with fresh dexcool. I haven't noticed the needle being any lower on the dash, nor the heat coming out of the vents being any cooler, but it might help ??? Idono ??? At least there were no adverse effects.
Thanks guys!
I wasn't really looking to keep it cooler, but moreover to keep from getting hot spots. I live in a suburb of Buffalo, NY so the temp never gets up to what it does in other parts. Hell its a whopping 25F out right now lol. My biggest concern was adverse affects. Don't want to replace the engine again! As always thanks.

One additive that has been proven effective is Red Line "Water Wetter". Water Wetter is a corrosion inhibitor and wetting agent that enhances the water's ability to conduct heat. It has been proven by Archer Racing on the Dyno to reduce cylinder head temperatures by up to 30 degrees on DSM motors. This lowers the chance of detonation and enhances power. It works best with straight water to a max of 30% antifreeze. It is not as effective in 50/50 coolant but still offers improved cooling. Use your judgement depending on your climate.
At the power levels these engines run for their displacement,it won't give youany meaningful benefit. The heat carrying capacity of the coolant is not the limiting factor in the Discovery's cooling system.
When these engines overheat, it's either because the coolant level dropped due to a leak and the owner didn't catch it, or because the radiator is plugged. In either case, increasing the heat carrying capacity of the coolant by a tiny fraction won't prevent overheating.
For what it's worth, our liquid cooled cylinder heads run normally around 190-210F. Aluminum'sfatiguecharacteristicsstart to changeslightly around 230F, meaningfullyaround 400F, and substantially (read: significantly weakened) around 500F. A3F reduction in temp at that point is not significant, nor will the water wetter do much to stop the rise from 210 to 500F to begin with.
Sorta like trying to melt 3 feetof snow with a handful of table salt
Better to put the water wetter cash toward an oil change or some other more critical maintenance.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave. Interesting analogy. I figured for ten bucks it couldn't hurt. It has been in for four days now and no problems as one would hope. If there is a temp drop, I certainly didn't notice. Guess I just wanted to buy something. Next stepAmsoil!
