Default Weird clinking noise, possible drive shaft problem need help!

A few weeks ago a u-joint blew out of my front drive shaft (2003 Disco) while i was driving down the road. After having it towed back to my house i put in two new u-joints and reconnected the front drive shaft. For some reason the disco now makes a clinking noise when i give it gas. It sounds like it could possibly be coming from the front drive shaft.

The only thing i can think of is that i never got the drive shaft rebalanced, so it's the drive shaft rubbing up against something else. Besides that i have no clue and being a broke college kid, i'd really appreciate any help.

the disco is factory with no modifications.

Thanks,

Another very interesting thing is that i actually lifted the disco completely off the ground and pressed the gas and it no longer made the noise at all...

Did you lift it by the axles? Even if you did, there is no torsion load on it anymore off the ground. The centering ball is between the 2 closest joints. There should be 3 total, and you should do them all at the same time.

yeah it was by the axles. before the u joint went out the disco would make a squealing noise i guess that should of been a warning to me. So if i change those center ***** it should take away the clinking noise? Also i forgot to mention there is a vibration when i drive.

IF you got the new u-joints installed correctly AND the shaft wasn't harmed, you should be ok. Might want to take it off and let a shop re-build it. They will do the whole thing with greasable joints and spin balance it after.

I just bought a brand new drive shaft for under $400 with delivery. Installed it with a buddy that has done some work on my Disco in the past and we were both very surprised at how good the quality seems to be, and how easy we were able to install it. All around no complaints so far and im a pretty happy camper considering the whole job cost me under $500 including install.
