Weird issue (tach)
Tach isn't working right. Sometimes it works without issue, othertimes it doesn't work at all, and yet sometimes it will just spring into action at random...
What could be causing this?

Even more then the battery, your tack gets it's signal from your alternator, so first check for loose or dirty wires, if they are fine, I wold say your alternator is starting to dye on you.

Great info as usual mike... The rover dealer quoted me $1500... I saw they're 195 on ebay, and 225 on a part site... Why not buy a new one?
As for the rebuild? Is there a kit for this, possible to DIY? Thanks again!

You can do that, they are pretty expensive especially if you have a D2 with the 130Amp unit. I especially like the cost of the 2 options Rover Connection has.

So the stock alternator can be rebuilt? Is there a kit you can buy to do this? I've had alternators apart many times so I doubt I'd have an issue swapping new parts into it. Is there a place to purchase the correct internals online?
