Eventually I'd like to get a set of diff guards (RTE or QT?). The RTE's are weld on only and it looks like the QT's require some tabs to be welded to the pumpkin. I'll be changing the diff oil in a few weeks (before any guard purchase) and was wondering what impact the heat from welding will do to the oil. Does it need to be replaced after that much heat? Should I wait until I have diff guards to change the gear oil? I'll be using Mobil 1 75w90 LS gear oil.

 

No problem on the gear oil.
Go top the QT's, they are a far better guard cause they cover more then one side of the diff.

 

I've been leaning towards the QT's but they're hard to come by here in the states. I missed a sale of an unused set (front and rears for $120) by a few hours 3 weeks ago.

 

youre only MIG Welding them on right?

I have QT diff guards on mine, front and the rear rock slider one to add protection to the flange as well.

The QT Disco 2front diff guard requires 2 weld on lugs, and I really did not like that idea tbh, I wanted a fullt "bolt on" one, so after some discussions and a few test fits by the guys at QT, a Defender TD5 front diff guard will fit a Disco 2 and requires no welding at all.

Speaking of diff guards, has anyone heard/used the KMC guards? If so are they good, not good?????

 

So UrbanPanzer, are you using the regular D2 diff guard for the rear, and just the TD5 version up front?

 

They are trying to sell one set that fits both D1's and D2's and not have the best of luck with it. They also cost $50 plus more per set then the QTs.
