it may take several drive cycles for the lamp to go out, ie total warm up and cool down times. Any chance you know what the codes are?

nope. it came on last night after the cleaning and today i was gone for the day. i am taking the rig out tonight on a date so i will put some miles on her and get the engine up to full op temps.
if it does not clear on its own i will get codes from a store in the morning on during the week.

slop how difficult is it to change the valve cover gasket

i have not done this on the rover, but i would say that it is not a matter of being difficult but more time consuming to get all the controls, wires and hoses out of the way. if you take your time and document or take pictures as you go you should be able to take things apart and put it all together again without issue.
BUT,,, why do you want to change them? have you tried to tighten them? and if you have has the leak stopped or does it continue?
