I just posted about replacing fluids in diff痴 and transfer case but while I知 doing it all why not just do the transmission, since it hasn稚 been touched since I致e owned the truck at 40k miles and have no records of it being done. What brand should I get and should it be synthetic? I found old threads from over 10 years ago but I知 wondering if there is any current suggestions and if you have the right product can you please link it specifically so I don稚 get the wrong type? I致e never changed trans fluid in my life.i will also change the filter with the one on amazon that痴 20.92$

 

I took mine to local shop. They did front + rear diffs, transfer case, and transmission fluid for something like ~100$. It was well worth it. Mechanic sent me a pic of mud colored oil in the front diff. .....

 

any good shop recommendations? I know you don稚 live near me I live in Pittsburgh but like reputable auto chains or should I go to a transmission place vs a regular auto shop chain. How do I know they are putting in the right stuff. I thought about doing it at a shop but everyone claims it痴 super easy but if it痴 around a hundred give or take then I don稚 mind paying someone

 

The local shop I use is the service center (nice 10 bay clean shop) for a medium sized used car dealer. they specialize in maser, Bentley, rovers, bmw, jag, etc....

So I would search for something like that in your area.....

 

only local European place near me ripped me off for 1200$ to do rear abs sensors and a shutter valve when I first bought the thing and after I learned about the car and am able to do all that myself I will NEVER return but I値l try researching around.

 

I used Valvoline Dex/Merc a couple of yrs ago, no problems since. If the shop wants $100 and that includes a filter, I'd be tempted. More than that and I would do it myself, it's an easy driveway job. I used about a gallon I think, and get a pump if you don't have one. The type that screw into the top of the bottle are easier than the inline type for me. Pump till it drips, plug it, start the engine and work it through all of the gears, put it in P and leave the engine on, check the level again and top up if needed.

 

I got the kit from AB (filter, gaskets) and DexIII + 1 bottle of Lucas. Watch the video on AB. I did a flush first (drain and refill without pan removal), drive a few miles until hot. Then drain, remove the pan, do the filter and gaskets, refill with a bottle of Lucas. Easy job. 14,000 Miles driven since then, transmission works great.

It says it痴 compatible with dex/merc on it but I知 still gonna say to just be safe and get the actual blue jug of Valvoline dex/merc. Walmart has it $14 a gallon.
