What’s going on with my alternator wiring?
So I just got a ‘99 Disco 2 as my first Land Rover. It’s in fairly good condition for its age. Inspecting under the hood I notice a black/white wire coming out of the alternator with a bit of electrical tape and not connected to anything. Then there’s a piece of brown/yellow wire with shrink wrap at the end also not attached to anything. What is going on here?

The brown/yellow wire is supposed to be connected to the smaller terminal on the alternator and run to connector C0203, which is a gray connector located to the rear of the engine compartment fuse box. From there it passes through another connector behind and below the steering wheel before terminating at the instrument panel warning light just like Roustabout said. Is your battery/alternator light on?
I have no idea about the black/white wire.
