What is this little metal thing? It's located behind the driver side headlight next to the grill.

Land Rover is soooo tricky. You get the flux capacitor for free, but the Disco can only go 87 mph.

ooooh yeah, that bit... well you see that bit there is called "lion deterrent device" installed on rovers bound for the african plains... it emits sound waves above what we humans can here that causes lions discomfort and therefore repels them from your vehicle and traveling party... obviously it is still in perfect working order as you have quite obviously not been recently mauled by a lion...

XD, don't you remember, they moved that unit in '95. It's now located in the differential. The unit pictured is clearly the... forward drive... ECU... box.

Obviously.

Pure luck he wasn't mauled.

As nearly everyone knows, the LDD shipped on all model DIIs but was only hooked up on late 03 to jan 04 Kalahari Siliver HSE DIIs ordered with the Lion Deterrent Package. You can buy the switch and wiring harness at Atlantic British for 2,000 dollars, or get the parts to do it yourself for 20 bucks at radio shack. There's a thread on disc0web.
