Default What brand of head gaskets?

I have used Felpro gaskets every time I have replaced head gaskets in the past. They make them for the buick engine that the 4.0 is based off of. Has anyone tried these on a rover? They are supposedly thicker than the OEM ones, which, although will reduce the power a little but could help a lot with reducing operating temperatures.

I suspect they would work better than anything else out there but I am looking for anyone who has actually used them before. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that cutting head gaskets out of a cardboard box would work better than the factory ones.

Atlantic british sells a good set. Also change your head bolts. Use a good quality 5/8" 6 point socket. The new head gaskets are supposed to be improved over the stock gaskets.

And when you buy them make sure to get new U.S. made head bolts and a t/stat.

I priced these and passed at ~$95 each.

I bought a complete head gasket set and bolts from fap99.com and the head gaskets themselves from British Atlantic - saved me a bunch over buying it all from BA. That was for a DI anyway.

I don't know that this has been proven. I am sure they are the best but I went for the composite ones from BA.

If they do solve the head gasket problem for good, they would definitely be worth it. I think the engine design may have a lot to do with the failures. Has anyone used the Cometics?

I would like to try mainstream land rover replacement gaskets, but, for some reason I have a hard time believing that anything made for our vehicles is designed with quality or longevity in mind.

Oh, that is so not true! Why, just off the top of my head I can think of dozens...well, ok, just two items that have been redesigned to correct problems:

metal idler pulleys replacing the plastic ones (ok, LR probably got a deal on metal pulleys from some supplier)

redesigned upper radiator hose (ok, LR probably saved a lot of money placing the bleed screw in the plastic hose connector rather than having to mold it into the rubber hose)

/end sarcasm
