Default What is Code 1668?

2001 Disco 2, will not crank. I've replaced the wires, plugs, coil pack, crank sensor. It still will not crank.

It is reading code 1668 Manufacturer Control auxiliary input, auxiliary output.

Can someone help me?

TIA

I had a similar problem on my 01 DII a few years back. I ended up replacing the crankshaft position sensor and it fixed it. I assume that is what you mean by crank sensor. There is a camshaft sensor as well, on the other side and more forward, but I have never messed with that one. Does is start at all, did it die originally while driving?? Mine started to fail as I drove or would not start after driving then miraculously start. I went through the a ton of TS before getting to the crankshaft position sensor. It has a can over it, back on the driver side. My code was a misfire code not a 1668, i did change the MAS sensor and wires, plugs, even O2 sensors and nothing worked. I have rambled enough, let us know what happens.

It was running fine. Then it started sputtering on hills with the air wide open. The codes at the time read misfires and such. That's when I replaced all of the above. Now it still wont crank and reads the 1668 code.

Well minus the 1668 code mine did pretty much the same thing. Once I replaced the crankshaft position sensor it started fine and the problem was gone. I would suggest tracing all your wiring to the sensor and misc starting devices. It turns over fine, no prob with fuel or ignition right? Power is good, all connections tight? Just throwing out ideas

We need to clarify some terminalogy.
cranking means the engine turns over but not running.
not cranking means that nothing happens when you try and start the engine.
Turn the key and nothing, so which is it?
Wont start or wont turn over?

Ok, thank you for clearing that up.
Are you getting spark?
Remove one spark plug, hook the plug wire back up and lay it down, have a friend crank the engine, does the spark plug spark?
If yes, your crank sensor is good and you have a fuel delivery problem.
If no then your crank sensor is bad, you said that you installed a new one so then it would either be bad or installed wrong/not hooked up correctly.

That is not a code related to a crank sensor, but if your engine will not fire up, then there is a good chance the sensor failed. Usually there are only 4 fault codes for a crank sensor and they rarely never show up when there is a problem.

Sorry to get back so late but I'm having to ask my mechanic and he was out of touch until today. He said it is not getting spark. It was a new crank sensor so what are the chances that a new part would be bad?

He also said that the sensor was dummy proof the way it hooks up so is there something about the sensor that maybe he missed?

Also, does anyone know what the code 1668 means?

TIA

No you cant install the crank sensor wrong, yes a new one could be defective.
Dont really know what that codes means.
