What is considered normal RPM range for city/highway speeds?

I agree. I think we have become so used to today’s cars running 2000rpm at 100mph it’s alarming when we get in an older 4 or 5 speed. I bought a 99 Land Cruiser last year and swore that the clutch plates were going to slice through the transmission tunnel and severe my legs when I realized I was going 75mph and 3,200rpm. Redline is like 5,600 on that truck.

With OG 255/55r16's I was at 2750 at 70... With the current tires it says 2500 at 70. Of course neither the speedo or the odo are correct according to GPS...
You really don't know how fast you are going until you use a few GPS apps on your smart phone or some outside measurement method like timing how long it takes between mile markers on a long straight stretch.
Once you know how fast your are actually going then you can see what the RPM's are at when you are actually driving 70 rather than just when your speedo says you are. Of course this is easier if you pick a long straight highway that will allow you to go 60 mph in one minute... for those that are mathematically challenged.

Might get more info about diesel performance on this site above. More diesel folks in Australia.

2001 Dll - 265/75-16's ...70 mph...2300 rpm. 75 mph...2500 rpm. Miles per hour verified, not odometer reading.
