I assume it is. Based on everything I've read on here, the symptoms seem to add up. It started running hot and the heater started blowing cold air. Nothing on ground, resevoir was empty, and the dipstick looked like it was full of chocolate milk.

If not head gaskets, what else would cause it to dump in to the oil like that? Intake gasket?

Would head gaskets not be the leading suspect? Is that not pretty much a given on these things?

I'll have to break it down regardless, so I guess I'll find out then. Either way, I'll need to replace the head gaskets so I might as well order them.

I have 130,000 on it so if not now, it's only a matter of time.

yeah it's most likely a head gasket but i was just listing other possible failures since you asked.

Here is hoping it is a head gasket, and not worse! Haven't noticed a misfire, for what it's worth.

Get the RAVE and tear into that mother!! It is really straight forward. I tore mine down and didn't get around to rebuilding it for 6 months. I thought I wouldn't have a clue when I revisited it but I worked smart and labeled EVERYTHING!!!

While I recognize that Land Rover ownership is going to require that I become more mechanically inclined, I doubt that I'm ready to take on something like that.

The RAVE makes it look easy, but I'm afraid that I would do more harm than good.

Default What should I do

Please do yourself a favor and have the gasket for the timing cover checked, I know from personal exs that this could be the problem and not the head gaskets, Take off the water pump and timing cover first and check that gasket, if its soft and peels off easy and not a b---h to get off thats a smoking gun, DO IT FIRST, I wish I had. I'll check it out, thanks! Still, with 130,000 miles wouldn't I be crazy to get as far down as that and not go ahead and replace the head gaskets? Even if that's not what it is now, we know it's only a matter of time. I'll probably do a new water pump while I have it taken apart.

Am I wrong in my logic?
