I thought it was a given that anyone who wasn't already intimately familiar with these trucks would have already received and be prepared to heed the advice that it ought to looked at by a dealer or independent LR specialist shop.

I just got a bit of a d-web vibe from this thread from the start, like people were bashing the new guy's truck before he even bought it. Maybe I misinterpreted it, but it sure didn't seem like there was much constructive advice being offered. And, IMO, to suggest that one ought not to pay more than $2000 for the truck in question is just retarded.

What's the owner-history of this truck? Are detailed maintenance records included? What's it had done, and when was it done? Were head gaskets recently addressed? Was the 60K service even properly performed? If not, it's nearly 40k overdue and that speaks volumes in and of itself... If this is a 1-owner truck with a meticulously detailed dealer-serviced maintenance history then it's worth a premium, but still not the premium price they're asking. Has it ever had any accident damage?

Basically, it's impossible for anyone here to tell you what THAT truck is precisely worth. Everyone thinks they're an expert, but in reality most are insecure and don't really know much more than the next guy and wants to belittle others just to reinforce their over-inflated opinion of themselves.

Sorry for the rant, it just bothered me to see the truck getting bashed as it was when no one knows enough about it to make an informed recommendation and no one saw fit to tell the prospective buyer what he really ought to be doing to make a wise decision for himself.

No one was bashing it as far as I can see.
But when a Disco is overpriced like that, its clear that the owner doesn't know much about what they're selling, and IMO thats a little scary. We've seen enough Disco's come through here that we can usually put a close pinpoint on a price.

Telling the poster the truck is too expensive is not offensive IMO.

im not bashing anything. im telling the truth. its from a dealer who is trying to sell a truck for the LR labeling. Not for it being mechanically sound. At that mileage I can say it will need head gaskets. Most likely the reason it was traded in or he bought it at a dealer auction in the first place because someone nearly lost their **** when a mechanic told them it needed head gaskets and it would cost $2,000...

as for the 16's better than the 18's. i stand by it. they 16's are cheaper for tires if you plan on staying on road and give you better options for off road.

I didnt say what its precisely worth. I said IMO. ie. what the funk i would pay for it. $2,000.

thanks for all the advice:
first, I meant the 4.0 in comparison to the 4.6
2nd, I understand the head gasket comment, thanks for the honesty, see 4th below
3rd, locally it's a good price, maybe a grand high. the other 3 forsale with 250 miles are 03's with the oil pump issue vin. another is an 04, high miles $12k i think
4th, any disco around here has been neglected, 90% of them around 02-04 were driven by high school/ college girls in Nola. it just seemed to be a trend.

disco man, i saw your forsale post, I'd love to get it, but its a heck of a drive from MS.

I'm so leery getting one of these beast. as stated before on this site, I love the style, but I need something dependable right now in this point in my life. I do have mechanic skills, just no time or extra cash to have my DD needing work.

I'll keep looking I guess, and maybe in a year or two I'll be ready for the challenge.
thanks again

Default Leaks?

I have a 99 Disco. Getting leak on ground. Coming from left top of tie rod. Left side of car. Is this prob the tire rod leaking or something else? What are common leaks points? I understand the car leaks oil it's a given. Thanks. This is my first actual visual leak that is getting on ground.

You'll need to start a new thread with a relevant subject-topic to get any help.
