The weather is getting better and better so soon i will be starting the reassembly of Betty.

so what is the normal consensus on the ARP studs? I think Dusty1 said 60, manual says 80 and i sure dont want to screw this up haha.

Arp says 100.....IMO 80 is plenty. It starts feeling like you are working a good thread puller at about 75

 

I went to 80 .....slept on it.... Then went 88

 

Then the car went back in time.

 

You want to use the exact same torque sequence as you would with Land Rover stretch bolts. Doing each sequence this is the foot-pounds we recommend 20 then 40 and finally 80

Anything over 80 you start to run the risk of ripping the start out of the block. We have done test some test torques to 90 without an issue but I would not recommend that.

 

I did basically what Dustin did, after much consultation on this forum (use the seach feature...it's your friend!). 100 just seemed way too high.

25...50...75...88 ft.lbs.

 

I did 75ft/lb in five increments. Not losing any sleep over it.

I wonder what classification ARP's lube falls into? Maybe, that's why they recommend 100ft/lb torque specs.

"Torque specifications will vary, depending on the lubricant used. Moly lube offers a more consistent torque reading than various oils. If Moly is used, be sure to follow the torque specs for Moly. If oil is used, follow the specs for oil. The specs will be different! If you lube with oil but tighten to specs listed for moly, you’ll under tighten. If you use moly but follow specs for oil, you’ll overtighten."

I've done 72ft/lbs as I felt anything more was asking for threads to come out.
No sleep lost.

 

That is so awful lot of information about lubrication. You must be a real connoisseur.
