Default What does a bad Fuel Pump feel like?

Hello friends!

My wife's 2000 Disco has developed a problem over the past two weeks, where her vehicle sputters for the first 20 (approx) seconds of driving, AFTER it's sat all day.

She says that when she gets out of college, she gets in the Rover, starts it, and then lets it idle while she gets situated- sometimes 15 seconds, other times 1 minute or more.

Then she puts it in gear, and begins driving. She says that the more she presses on the accelerator, the more it feels like it's going to stall. It has never actually stalled, but if she keeps constant pressure on the peddle, it spits and sputters, lurches forward, sputters more, etc- all for 10-20 seconds.

I've tried to reproduce the problem here at home, and have only managed to do so once, but I've been terribly busy and haven't had much time.

Does this sound like a fuel pump? Has anyone had a DII fuel pump fail, to know what it sounds/feels/acts like?

THANK YOU ALL!

Any fault codes? When was the engine last tuned, including wires and air filter? What octane gas are you running?

Sound like bad wires. Is it worse on wet mornings? Does it go away when the engine is warmed up?

Premium gas, but I wonder if it's the wires!! I've had a box of 8mm Magnecors on the bench for 6 months now, because it's been 30k miles since these generic looking black ones were put on by the last owner.

I'll have our mechanic pop those in!

THANKS GUYS!!!

If it were wires, you would have a fault code, DO YOU, if so what are the numbers?
