It must be said that any year was a great year for a Discovery. The difference in the trucks is simply the owner and how much he/she took care in maintaining it.

I agree with that statement, with the exception of the '03 Manufacturing mess-up with the oil pumps... Even then, '03's are great... I have one in the VIN range for the failure and my oil pump is/was fine...

If I had to pick a year, I'd go with an '04, just because, as mentioned before, they are the prettiest and they have everything you'll ever want in an on-road and off-road vehicle... Sure they have more bells and whistles than the D1's and some electrical things go haywire, but hey, the world loves Windows...

All these D1 fans are miss informed tbh, the D2 (I dohave 1 of Each) will go ANYWHERE offroad a D1 will go and further!!!.........and and its far superior on road by a MILE!!!!!!.........yes it has more to go wrong, but thats just modern technology in newer vehicles for you........I LOVE my D1 as well, its a greattruck and I would buy another, but its just notupto D2 quality tbh

If your budget allows, get a D2, you wont regret it.........

X2.

I don't think a D1 4.0L and CDL will go further than my DII 4.6L with CDL+TC.

I would bet that most Disco I owners in the US would buy
Defenders.
In the US can't get Defenders so the Disco I's are as close as we get.

Well that's true for us who buy Land Rovers because we like them for off-roading. I certainly would have bought a Defender if they could be had for less than $30,000. However (at least where I'm from) Discoverys are mostly driven by moms who buy Land Rovers because it was the only SUV out there that was also European. They would NEVER buy a Defender.

LR had the market cornered until the Mercedes ML, BMW X5, Porsche Cayanne and Volvo XC90... now i see plenty of those at polo games too.

And to Urban Panzer and Jupiter Rover i have seen pictures of your DII's and yes i'm sure they would leave my DI far behind...

But, to me the DII reminds me too much of those "pretty" SUVs (also i couldn't afford one haha), and the D1 is a little more like something i can knock around. the RR Classic was a strong option for me as well but i never saw one with a manual transmission.

apcollin, used DIIs can be bought for less than you probably think. Thanks to all those moms there are lot of DIIs out there and they took the HUGE hits on depreciation buying them new.
