What grease do you use on your driveshafts?
I have Tom Woods front and rear D/S shafts. I've been using NLGI #2 Valvoline (
)
Seems to work great on the u-joints, but I tried using it on the slip joint nipple, and it popped the dust cap off (after consuming A LOT of grease first). I asked Tom Woods, and he said I should be using NLGI #1 grease (thinner) on the slip yoke shaft.
#1 grease seems a lot harder to find and it would be super annoying to have to switch between greases on my air powered grease gun.
Thoughts?

Leatium high temp bearing grease for U joints, and keep pumping until it comes out of all four corners, for slip joint it really doesn't matter what is used as long as it's lubricated, you should usually stop pumping when it's full and starts pushing out the rubber dust cover,
I've been using this stuff for years.
yeah, I agree any ol grease is fine for the u-joints, but my problem in particular is with the slip joint/yoke shaft. The dust boot separated, apparently due to too thick of grease. The old grease is supposed to ooze out, not push the cap off. And side thought, I can never seem to get grease to ooze out of the entire diameter of the u-joints, usually only like 50% of the circumference... again, too thick of grease? NLGI #2 is pretty standard stuff though...
Likely the joint was extended when serviced and grease was excreted when compressed. Granted the cap should not be pushed off unless defective or issue with it's retention. How long have you had the shaft?

It's basically brand new and happened the first time I greased it. ~1400 miles. I can't recall greasing the front slip-yoke, so I will try that tomorrow and see if I get the same result. I was pumping grease into the rear shaft with an air gun @ 60 psi for a solid 30 or 45 seconds until finally the cap started to move. That shaft holds a lot of grease...?!
