What happend to my window?
Drivers side front window was frozen apparently, it wouldn't go down, but you could hear the motor trying to lower it... Anyway I held off and just left it up, figured when the temp outside went up, it would defrost enough to lower it. Anyway I tried to lower it today, and it sounds like the motor pulled the bottom half of the window apart, as in shattered the window... I think... anyone have any experience with this? How hard is it to put a new window in that door and on the tracks, any how-to perhaps?? thanks guys hope you're all well, I haven't been posting much.
Are you sure it shattered the window? My window did the same thing (still does from time to time) I took the door panel off and noticed that the window was just off track. It took a little persuasion to get the window and the motor to work together, but it got fixed without having to replace anything. Occasionally it still does it. I normally can just slam the door shut a couple of times and window goes back on track. If this does sound like what your experiencing, post again and I'll tell you exactly what I did to fix it.
Most likely you have a bad window regulator that needs to be replaced. They normally don't break the window. If you are pretty mechanical, the regulator is pretty easy to replace. You can order them thru Atlantic British or Rover Connection on line.

Well the window was frozen at the time, as in frozen from cold...
I pressed down on the window button, and it just made a loud pop followed by a shatter noise...
Then when you close the door, you can hear half the window is shattered.

Ok the window wasn't even broken, what happend was the rail that glues to the bottom of the window came unseated while the window itself was stuck in the up position, so the actuator went all the way down without the window, then when I pressed, "up," it apparently got caught on something and bent and broke...
What I ended up doing was pulling the whole unit out, and taking it all apart. I took the passenger side one out also to see how it, "should," look. After that I bended it all back by hand, made some new of those wheels that fit into the sliders out of washers which I used a lathe to do... Anyway it's working again, but what a pain in the butt.
